JACOB FRED JAZZ ODYSSEY (Thursday May 17) Since 1994, JFJO has been playing its own brand of impressionistic and improvisational music to audiences worldwide. Performing in some of the best venues and festivals, JFJO’s current lineup of Tulsa players consists of Brian Haas (piano), Josh Raymer (drums), Chris Combs (lap steel) and Jeff Harshbarger (double bass). JFJO’s music transcends boundaries and generates an all-encompassing sensory experience for the listener. www.jfjo.com

HAYES CARLL BAND (Friday May 18) Austin based Hayes Carll’s latest release KMAG YOYO, was the #1 most played Americana album in 2011. It’s full of everything from fiery rock to twangy country, with a touch of pensive folk and gospel thrown in for good measure. A self-described master of “degenerate love songs”, Carll has appeared on the tonight show and Austin City Limits. His self-deprecating sense of humor and in between song patter, along with some great musical chops, have made him a festival favorite. Talented Oklahoma musician, Travis Linville, is Carll’s go to side man and will be performing with Carll at Mayfest. www.hayescarll.com

JD MCPHERSON (Saturday May 19) Yanish, Oklahoma native, and now Tulsan, JD McPherson has been on a wild ride this past year. Named by NPR as an “artist you should know” in 2011, McPherson will make his Rounder Records debut on April 17 with a rerelease of Signs & Signifiers, McPherson’s latest album, originally recorded and produced by Chicago’s Hi-Style Records. The album will be distributed in Great Britain under the venerable Decca Records Label. The music has a rootsy, bluesy sound with hints of rockabilly, and the original recording was all done on vintage analog equipment. A film major, McPherson shot videos to promote the release, and the video for the single “North Side Gal” has become a Youtube favorite. Big things are in store for this Oklahoma boy. www.jdmcpherson.com Opening for McPherson and his band is Chicago roots rocker Robbie Fulks. The Chicago Tribune says Fulks is “a masterly, multi-faceted songwriter who can belt out hip-shaking honky tonk, honeydew pop and chilling little ballads. So good he’s scary.” The highly entertaining Fulks will be joined by the talented Robbie Gjersoe (longtime guitarist for The Flatlanders and Jimmy Dale Gilmore.) www.robbiefulks.com
