The International Festivals & Events Association paid tribute to Tulsa’s Mayfest on Sept. 21, 2012 during the IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards Ceremony held at the IFEA’s 57th Annual Convention & Expo in Denver, Colo. Mayfest organizers received seven awards in the IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards competition. Awards were won in the following categories:
Gold – Best Sponsor (MidFirst Bank, presenting sponsor)
Gold – Best Ad Series (ad creation donated by Bryan Cooper)
Gold – Best Sponsor Follow Up Report
Gold – Best Single New Sponsorship Program (3D Muve Music Wonderwall sponsored by Cricket Communications and produced by GuRuStu Group)
Gold – Best Press/Media Kit
Silver – Best Commemorative Poster (created by Otto Deucker)
Bronze – Best T-shirt Design
This is the sixth year Mayfest organizers entered Mayfest into the Pinnacle awards. In 2011, Mayfest received two awards in best press/media kit and best miscellaneous multimedia for the mobile map designed by GuRuStu. This set of awards represents the most awards won by Mayfest in a given year.

Sponsored by Haas & Wilkerson Insurance, the professional competition draws entries from among the world’s top festivals and events. Winning entries came from organizations as diverse as the National Cherry Blossom Festival, Washington, D.C.; Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, Houston, Texas; Norfolk Festevents, Norfolk, Va.; 500 Festival, Indianapolis, Ind.; Dublin Irish Festival, Dublin, Ohio; Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Denver, Colo.; and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, Pasadena, Calif.
The 2012 Mayfest attracted approximately 350,000 attendees over four days. The art festival offers vendors selling arts and handmade goods, various art shows, live music and food vendors.
International contenders included such diverse event organizations as the Hanseong Bakje Cultural Festival, Seoul, Korea; Showtime Events, New Delhi, India; World Gourmet Summit, Singapore; Krakow Festival Office, Krakow, Poland; Rotterdam Festivals, The Netherlands; Festival Lent, Slovenia and Shambhala Music Festival, Nelson, BC, Canada.
Awards were handed out in 69 different categories in total including Best TV Promotion; Social Media Site, Event Program; Commemorative Poster; Overall Sponsorship Program; Environmental Program; Educational Program, Children’s Programming; Media Relations Campaign; Overall Merchandising Program; Festival & Event Management Degree Programs to the highest award reflecting the best overall festival & event in the world – the Grand Pinnacle.
